Craniopathy is the study of the skull and restoring proper function. This involves cranial adjusting on the 22 interlinked bones of the cranium and face. Our chiropractors use sacro occipital technique which incorporates cranial adjusting, ie. working with the micro motion of the skull, its distortions and the effect the skull has on the cerebrospinal fluid and nervous system. CSF is responsible for bringing nutrients to the brain and spinal cord and for removing toxic waste from the same system. Thus craniopathy may impact your overall health.
Cranial distortions are most likely from stresses, and stresses the body cannot adapt to. Most commonly physical, such as birth trauma, sprint injuries or motor accidents. Emotional, environmental pollution or chemical stressors, such as drugs or food additives.
See the video below for a demonstration of how the cranium moves as you breathe:
Signs and symptoms you may have a cranial restriction:
Pelvic / spinal irritation, causing muscle tightening on the skull
Diaphragm tightness
Jaw / head tension
Sinus tension
Known stresses affecting you
Benefits of cranial adjusting could be:
Optimal function of central nervous system; and
Reduced stress of the nervous system
Proper functioning pelvis and cranium
Reduced jaw tension
Reduced headaches
Enhancing sacro-occipital pump
And so much more!
